WHEN YOU BELIEVE…..YOU’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH
It’s human nature to compare ourselves to others. Many people go so far as to look for proof that we are insignificant “nobodies”, that we don’t deserve to be happy.
Those of us in recovery often have low self-esteem, causing us to judge ourselves based on what we think are the standards of others. We tend to ignore our own unique qualities, our own strengths, our own values.
For me personally, I had to develop the habit of reminding myself daily that I have more “right” with me than “wrong” with me.
None of us are perfect – every person on earth has flaws. Part of recovery is to focus on the progress we make in sobriety, not on trying to achieve the impossible, elusive perfection.
To do this, I’ve had to learn to forgive and love myself for the person I am today. I have learned that I am good enough, that I do deserve to have good things happen. A big part of the healing process is accepting what is happening today with dignity and hope – in the end, I believe it will make tomorrow that much brighter.
