MY JOURNEY IN RECOVERY WITH THE 12-STEP PROGRAM
A few years ago, I had no choice but to deal with my issues with alcohol. My family were ready to throw me out so I went to a treatment centre and I managed to stop. I was lucky. The treatment centre was based on the 12-step philosophy. I say I was lucky because the 12-step program was the answer to my next question: How do I stay sober? By following the 12-step program, I found a solution.
The Program has given me a framework for my recovery. Through the steps, I learned to admit my powerlessness over a drink. The Program taught me that with a belief in a Higher Power, I could be whole and sane again. I have found the humility to admit my wrongs and the self-esteem to give myself credit for things I have accomplished in recovery.
The 12-Step Program has become my guide for a healthy recovery – it covers all aspects of living a good life sober, part of which is being of service to others who are struggling with the hell of addiction to alcohol and/or drugs.
Today, the 12-Step Program is a part of me, and through it I have found peace and serenity. For anyone who has issues with addiction, I recommend giving the 12-Step Program a try – after all, what do you have to lose?
