I WAS THERE…….I RELATE

I was thinking this past weekend about those people who are newcomers in recovery – I know how they feel because I was there…

…I know the pain of addiction and what it takes away from us

…I know the loss of self-esteem when we are actively drinking and how much we can be hurt by this

…I know the feelings of hopelessness and the struggles we create for ourselves when we are deep in our addiction

…I know how easy it is to blame others for all of our problems before we make that crucial decision to get help

But I also know that there is hope in recovery.  Life gets better….not always quickly, but it does get better.  I know from my own experiences that change is possible for anyone who is willing to work for it.
